The Trendiest Interior Paint Colors for 2024
Toward the end of each year, prominent paint companies announce their color of the year. It’s now that time again to share the paint colors that big names like Sherwin-Williams have chosen to be on the cutting edge of color trends. So, what are the hottest paint colors for this year’s interior design experts? Let’s share this year’s colors of the year from the best brands of interior paint.
2024 Paint Colors of the Year
2024 has brought a lot of beautiful new paint colors to refresh interiors, inspire new designs, and uplift us in the new year! Here are the colors of the year from some of the leading names in paint.
Pantone: Peach Fuzz
Pantone just announced its 2024 color of the year, Peach Fuzz, “a velvety gentle peach whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and heart.”
Peach fuzz is not just a refreshing color that’s soft and tender, but it’s in-vogue, worn by superstars like Taylor Swift on the red carpet. Its light peach hue is reminiscent of spring and positive feelings, fostering a sense of connection and caring. This is certainly a pivot from last year’s bold Viva Magenta, that reflected the zest for adventure and daring.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, says this about the new color:
“In seeking a huge that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”
Dunn-Edwards: Skipping Stones
This year’s color for Dunn-Edwards is Skipping Stones, a peaceful, steely blue blended with whispers of green and gray. The brand chose this hue to be energizing, meditative, and capturing the “feeling of the sea” and “yearning to slow down and achieve balance and tranquility” in the coming year. It belongs to Dunn-Edwards’ New Dawn color palette that exudes mystery and ethereal splendor in its delicate and earthy shades.
DeMing Carpenter, a color expert at Dunn Edwards, says, “Skipping Stones feels like a daydream and can add a sense of mystery and thoughtfulness to any space. It’s part of the resurgence of blue and represents a shift away from the bold, warm-toned colors we’ve seen gain popularity over the past few years. This blue is timeless and versatile, fresh, and serene.”
Sherwin-Williams: Upward
For 2024, Sherwin-Williams features Upward, a relaxed, coastal blue. It’s part of the Vintage Homestead Color Collection, which includes mixed patterns and classic shapes inspired by vintage décor. It’s a color with a wide variety of uses, whether you want to color entire walls or accent areas like window frames.
Benjamin Moore: Blue Nova
Blue Nova is a calming blend of violet in a hue that Benjamin Moore describes as “elevated and sumptuous.” This is in line with other 2024 color trends that are embracing softer, more delicate shades inspired by nature and the serene scenes. This mid-tone is at once classic but deep and intriguing, perfect for a room that needs a refreshing, captivating new appeal.
Dutch Boy: Ironside
Dutch Boy Paint’s 2024 color of the year comes from its “Rooted in Comfort” collection. Ironside, a deep olive-green shade, is a calming natural tone that is suitable for many rooms in the home. Ashley Banbury, Dutch Boy’s color marketing manager, believes that this shade incorporates all of the values the brand wants to embrace this year.
“Creating a space for wellness should be a driving factor in everyday life. That’s why taking a natural approach to healthy living and safe spaces is a pivotal part of the current landscape … [Ironside] incorporates all the above in one bold color and can be applied in one single coat.”
Behr
According to Behr Paint, Cracked Pepper is their color of the year. The shade is between a dark grey and soft black. Cracked Pepper is one of the darkest shades to be named color of the year. While painting with darker colors may be intimidating, we recommend saving dark colors for an accent wall. Painting an entire room using dark paint colors can make a room appear smaller, but using these shades as an accent color can elevate your room and home design.
Valspar
Valspar follows the paint color trends by subscribing to another shade of blue. With the shade Renew Blue, the paint shade is a lighter shade with an undertone tint of green. This shade aligns with what color experts and trend forecasters were predicting to be this years color of the year. As we live in an overwhelming world, Valspar shares that the shade creates a “sense of peace wherever you place it.” Perhaps peaceful cool-tones will be our new neutrals?
PPG & Glidden
PPG & Glidden recently announced their color of the year for 2024: Limitless. The paint color limitless is a soft shade of beige, with undertones of a honey-yellow. The shade is perfect for interior design! As a desaturated shade, there is an endless amount of possibilities to be paired with. With the ability to blend in to any color palette, the color has the perfect name, as the options truly are limitless.
Graham & Brown
Graham & Brown’s title of color of the year has been given to Viridis. The shade is a soft green, mostly inspired by plants and nature. Graham & Brown is choosing to lean in to the color trends that we’ve seen throughout home decor this year, consisting of uplifting natural shades. Similarly leaning towards a color that brings peace, Graham & Brown explained that they chose a shade that enhances our well-being, with undertones that reflect “harmony and stability.
Viridis is a tone that is more likely to be grouped with pastels rather than deep greens and dark paint colors, and we appreciate the dedication to uplifting color palettes.
C2 Paint Color of the Year: Thermal
C2 Paint named Thermal as their paint color of the year. Thermal is another shade that leans into lighter color trends. As a soft blue, color experts at C2 say the shade encourages an “uplifting and energizing year ahead.” Philippa Radon, interior designer and paint color trend specialist described the shade as a “pale yet punchy blue, poised for adventure.” Thermal is the perfect color for anyone looking to bring a light shade into their home decor.
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year: Persimmon
HGTV fans will appreciate Sherwin William’s HGTV Homes 2024 Color of the Year! The color is persimmon, a warmer shade compared to some of the others on the list. Sherwin-Williams describes persimmon as ““the energy of tangerine with grounded neutral undertones.” Sherwin-Williams goes on to say that “[Permisson is] perfect for spaces like living rooms,” and we can imagine the lovely shade of terracotta to look just as good in a dining room accent wall.
Persimmon is best described as an earthy paint color. However, color experts at Sherwin-Williams didn’t limit themselves to just one color this year. The brand released an entire color palette, exclusively available at Lowe’s in their Renewed Comfort color collection. Persimmon is included in the palette, alongside 10 other colors. The color palette includes a mix of similarly neutral and bright colors, leaning into trends we’ve seen throughout interior design.
