Mike Kalis, Managing Partner of Marketplace Homes, graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in 2004. After starting his career in Sales at the largest home builder in the United States, Pulte Homes, Mike joined Marketplace Homes in 2007. Later in 2008, Kalis purchased the company for $25,000. With just one employee, the Marketplace Homes’ main office was located in Mike’s living room! In just four short years, Kalis expanded the company into 30 markets, hired nearly 100 employees, and brought revenue up to $20 million in 2012 all while creating growing profits. This expansion represented a 1,700 percent growth rate, and places Marketplace Homes as one of the fastest success stories in the United States. Mike has been quoted in over 50 different media outlets, including Fox Business, Detroit News, Chicago Herald, and Builder Magazine and Mike is a sought after speaker by Builders throughout the country earning a 9.9 rating (10 being excellent) from those that hear him speak. Kalis was also recognized by Crain’s as a “Top 20 in Their 20’s” in Detroit Business, The American Business Award for Most Innovative Company under 100 employees, by the Governor of Michigan Rick Snyder as 1 of 50 fastest growing companies to watch, and by INC Magazine at 189th fastest growing company in the US. Outside of work, Mike loves water sports, guitar and building amazingly artistic companies!

Steve Petruska is the founder and President of The SCP Group, LLC. The SCP Group provides real estate consulting services and operational solutions to home building and real estate companies, banks, hedge funds, REIT’s and individuals. With over 30 years of residential, large and small-scale land planning, land development, and commercial real estate experience coupled with a background in operating team selection, evaluation and development The SCP Group offers a wide range of services to large and small companies. Mr. Petruska is the former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for PulteGroup, Inc. In his 26 years at the PulteGroup, Inc., he also held the positions of Area President, Regional President, Division President and Division Vice-President of Finance. Mr. Petruska retired from the PulteGroup in August of 2010. At PulteGroup, Mr. Petruska lead a team that encompassed all operational aspects of the company’s domestic homebuilding operations including Sales, Marketing, Construction, Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, Land Acquisition, Land Development and Product Development/Architectural Services. Additionally, he oversaw the company’s Pulte Building Services (PBS) subsidiary units throughout the country. In his tenure at PulteGroup he earned a reputation for being a clear communicator with a consistent vision, being an outstanding leader, creating a harmonious team culture that ignited enthusiasm in his employees, delivering upon goals in a timely and consistent manner, having keen analytical and strategic thinking skills as well as being an outstanding business operator.
 
Mr. Petruska received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant Michigan in 1981. Additional qualifications include receiving his CPA from the State of Texas.
 
Mr. Petruska is currently a member of Orleans Homebuilders, Inc. Board of Directors and acts and an Advisor to Michigan based Marketplace Homes, Inc. and Michigan based NSG Development, LLC.

Joel graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from the Olin Business School. While at Wash U, he played four years of Men’s Basketball, and served as Team Captain for his junior and senior year. Upon graduating, Joel moved abroad and earned a Master’s degree in Real Estate Management and Development at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He worked in Sales with Pulte Homes for 5 years before joining Marketplace Homes in 2010. Builder Magazine recognized Joel as the Top New Construction Home Salesperson in the United States in 2011, as he personally sold 141 homes. His focus has now shifted to adding and developing new markets across the country as Marketplace Homes changes the way people move!

While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Marketing at Wayne State University, Chintan jump started his career at an early age as a serial entrepreneur. Chintan co-founded WITNIS Project, an International South Asian record label at the mere age of 18. As the VP of Marketing & PR for WITNIS Project, he successfully created & implemented a marketing plan that launched their start-up onto an international platform in over 25 countries. His claim to fame in the entertainment industry was creating the first ever South Asian artist collaboration with International Grammy Award winning artist, Akon. After successfully exiting the music & entertainment industry, Chintan brought his marketing vision to Marketplace Homes. Chintan enjoys being a part of an organization that continually strives to move & change the world! He is a firm believer in one of their core values of “Creating a story worth telling!” Outside of the office you can find him traveling to a new destination or entertaining dance floors across the world as he is a DJ by night!

Mark Savitskie, Chief Financial Officer, graduated of Wayne State University with a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Finance. Mark’s career has included all aspects of accounting and finance as part of a Fortune 500 company, a consulting firm, and as owner of a mortgage brokerage and accounting firm. Mark loves the excitement of being part of the Marketplace Homes team, building financial processes and systems in a rapidly growing organization, where every day brings new challenges. A native of Detroit, and long time resident of Plymouth, Mark enjoys working outside around his house, cooking, following his Detroit Tigers and Michigan Wolverines, and enjoying his family, children and grandchild.

Mark graduated from Central Michigan University in 2002, FIRE UP CHIPS! He spent 8 years working in Sales with Pulte Homes, and remained a top producer while working in some of Pulte’s most challenging markets. Mark is visionary that is responsible for many of the innovations that have helped shape Marketplace Homes, and that will revolutionize the Real Estate industry. The thing he loves most about Marketplace Homes is the culture of the company, and how each person creates WOW! for our customers. He and his wife of 5 years, Stacia, are fitness enthusiasts who enjoy being outdoors biking, skiing, boating, and running.

Lindsey Roberts, Chief Technology Officer, hails from The University of Michigan-Dearborn with a degree in Psychology. While attending U of M, she simultaneously planted her roots in the New Construction Home industry. Working for local custom builders as well as national builder, Centex Homes, Lindsey gained a wealth of knowledge and discovered her passion for people and process management. Along with her 12 years of experience, she brings a creative and insightful view to all things tech-related at Marketplace Homes, moving the company forward in its innovations and processes. Her favorite thing about Marketplace Homes is the positivity and creativity of the entire team, which keeps her motivated and constantly moving forward. Outside of the office, Lindsey enjoys classic movies, a good glass of wine and spending time with her family.

Leslie Meissner, Director of Communications, graduated from Eastern Michigan University. Leslie brings a combination of business strategy and creativity to the table from having her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and minors in Entrepreneurship and Art. Even though she has a background in banking, real-estate has been a passion of hers for many years. According to Leslie, the best part about Marketplace Homes would be the diverse group of encouraging people she works with. In her spare time, Leslie enjoys spending time on the lake in the summers and traveling to warm vacation spots in the winter.

Cole Young, General Counsel of Marketplace Homes, graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in 2004 and a Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 2007. Cole was Senior Class Council President at Michigan State and while at New York Law School, he was Executive Editor of the Moot Court Team and Vice Chair of the Public Interest Coalition. Before joining Marketplace Homes, Cole was in private practice for 5 years representing clients ranging in size from sole proprietors to Fortune 500 Companies in real estate, construction and labor and employment transactions and litigation.
